Seward Park Remodel
The remodel of this mid-century classic by renowned Seattle architect, Paul Kirk, included some structural as well as cosmetic changes in order to achieve a more up-to-date look and feel while retaining the home’s spare modern qualities.
After living in the home for more than 30 yrs, the owner wanted a more functional kitchen integrated with the adjacent spaces and access to the exterior; new finishes throughout; a way to display her collection of glass and ceramic pieces; and a more inviting front entry.
The approach was to create a better flow between spaces by removing interior walls separating the kitchen from the dining area. A large sliding door in the dining room was installed to provide easy indoor-outdoor access and abundant natural light. A new lighting scheme was developed for all the main spaces and bathrooms. The choice of materials responded to the client’s inclination towards a softer and lighter palette with a few touches of color: white oak cabinetry, back-painted glass, Milestone flooring, and ceramic tile. The transparent display case replaces a solid entry cabinet opening the entry to the living area.
